What should I do if I get a scam call?

Updated 07/25/2020

Callers purporting to be law enforcement officers, government officials, bank officers, or even family members is becoming more and more common.

For more information on how to protect yourself from scam callers, please go to the North Dakota Attorney General's webite to view common types of scams and ways to avoid becoming victim to them.

Reminder: never give out personal information (dates of birth, social security numbers, bank account information, etc) if you do not know who you are speaking with. Local/state/federal law enforcement officials will never demand payment for fines/fees over the phone nor will they threaten immediate arrest if you do not cooperate.

If you receive a call saying you have a warrant for your arrest, or you owe fines/fees for a criminal case, hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency to verify if you have a legitimate warrant or outstanding fines/fees.
