Nature

The Gunlogson Arboretum Nature Preserve is an arboretum and nature preserve which is now part of Icelandic State Park, 5 miles west of Cavalier, North Dakota. The preserve lies along both banks of the Tongue River and is dominated by mature elm and basswood. It had been in the Gunlogson family for over 80 years when it was donated to North Dakota by G. B. Gunlogson in 1980.
The name, acreage, location, most common game species, and fishing if available is listed for each area. Unless otherwise specified, the areas are open to hunting, fishing and trapping. Check the current hunting and fishing regulations and proclamations for details. Many of the areas also provide hunting or trapping for furbearers. Most WMAs are ideal for nature study, hiking, and primitive camping.

Nine hole golf course offers family fun on the fairway and delicious meals in the clubhouse, all with the stunning Pembina Gorge as a backdrop.
The Pembina Gorge encompasses the largest uninterrupted block of woodlands in North Dakota, and the longest segment of unaltered river valley in the state. Canoe and Kayak access docks are located at Vang Bridge, Brickmine Bridge and the Hwy 32 Bridge (the "white bridge") for easy access to the Pembina River.
At this site a road project accidentally exposed the fossilized remains of a large prehistoric marine reptile called a mosasaur. Today interpretive signs talk about this amazing creature and the geology of the region
