Development
Pembina County is a great place to start a new business, expand your current business or relocate. The Pembina County Job Development Authority conducted a Business Retention and Expansion Program in 2015-2016 and asked 49 local businesses, “What are the strengths of doing business in your community?” The top responses included:
Location: Pembina County is located close to the Canadian border and has easy access to I-29, which runs north to Canada and south to Mexico. This central location, combined with the strong rail infrastructure and top of the line communications infrastructure all make Pembina County a convenient place to do business. Most cities in Pembina County are less than two hours from two large population centers: Grand Forks, North Dakota and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Diversified Economy: Manufacturing is the lead employment sector in the county providing almost 600 jobs, followed by agriculture, public administration, retail, healthcare, construction, wholesale trade, transportation and more.
Tourism and Outdoor Recreation: Pembina County is often called the “four season playground” as it is home to 700 miles of snowmobile trails, ski/board/tube area, summer theater, 25 miles of off-highway vehicle trails, several non-motorized trails, adventure races, renowned fossil digs, fishing tournaments, a music festival, motorcycle ride in, and more. The Rendezvous Region Tourism Council is working on further developing tourism in this region.
