"Vote by Mail" applications were mailed Wednesday, April 30, 2008 to persons that voted in the 2004 & 2006 General Elections. If you are new to the County, new voter, or did not vote in Pembina County in 2004 or 2006 you need to request an application. If you received the application, complete it and return it to the County Auditor office as soon as possible. We will then mail you a ballot. Any questions, please call 265-4231. County positions being voted on in the 2008 Primary Election are: County Commissioner District #2 (Walhalla area) County Commissioner District #4 (Cavalier area) Cities will have mayor and council members The 2008 Primary and General Elections will be held by "Vote by Mail" in Pembina County. Information will be coming in the newspapers and radio. “VOTE BY MAIL” How will it work? What do I have to do? Are these some of your questions? “How will it work?” It will work just like the absentee ballot process has worked in the past. A signed application has to be filed to request a ballot. The voter verifies that he/she is a resident of the precinct in which they are requesting to vote, have lived there at least 30 days, are a U S citizen, and at least 18 years of age. Each person has to sign their own application. If you want a ballot for both the 2008 June Primary Election & 2008 November General Election, check the box that says State Primary Election and the box that says State General Election on the application. We will then automatically send you a ballot for the 2008 November General Election, you will not have to reapply. “What do I have to do?” With the “Vote by Mail” process, everyone will be getting a postcard with information regarding the process in early April. In April anyone who voted in the 2004 General Election and the 2006 General Election will automatically receive a ballot application. If you did not vote in either the 2004 General or 2006 General elections in Pembina County, you will have to request an application. Only one application should be completed and submitted to the County Auditor for processing. You will need to put your driver’s license number and birth date on the application. Applications will be available from all the City Auditors offices throughout the County and at the County Auditor’s Office. Once the application is completed and returned to the County Auditor’s Office, a ballot will be mailed to you. Once you receive your ballot, vote your ballot, taking care to blacken in the oval with a black or blue pen. Place the ballot in the secrecy sleeve provided, place in ballot envelope, and complete the affidavit on the back of the envelope. This signature is compared to the signature on the application form for verification on the day of election by the election board. Mail the ballot back to the County Auditor or it can be dropped off at the County Auditor’s Office. Ballots must be postmarked no later than June 9, 2008, the day before the election in order to be counted. Ballots can be returned to the Office of the County Auditor from early May through June 9 during regular office hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday thru Friday. Ballots postmarked or delivered after June 9, 2008 will not be counted. Individuals can complete an application and vote in person in the County Auditor’s Office starting in early May through June 9, 2008, The ballots will all be verified and opened on Election Day and counted at the same time as anyone appearing at the Courthouse Polling location to vote. Vote by mail is safe, easy, convenient, and important. • Sign and return an application • Vote ballot • Sign affidavit on back of ballot envelope • Seal and return to County Auditor, by mail or in person If you do not want to “Vote by Mail”, one precinct will be open at the Pembina County Courthouse Meeting Room for those wishing to vote at the polls. Polls will be open June 10, 2008, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Remember if you are voting in person, you need to present a form of identification. Precincts for the 2008 Elections are as follows: Precinct #1 – Pembina City, Pembina Township, Joliette Township, Carlisle Township, Neche City, Neche Township, Hamilton City, Hamilton Township, Bathgate City, Bathgate Township. Precinct #2 – Walhalla City, Walhalla Township, St Joseph Township, Felson Township, LaMoure Township, Advance Township. Precinct #3 – Beaulieu Township, Akra Township, South Cavalier Township, Thingvalla Township, Mountain City, Park Township, Canton City (Hensel), Lodema Township, Gardar Township, Crystal City, Crystal Township. Precinct #4 – Cavalier City and North Cavalier Township Precinct #5 – Elora Township, St Thomas City, St Thomas Township, Midland Township.
